In mechanics, a diaphragm is a sheet of a semi-flexible material, usually made of rubber, anchored at its periphery.

Rubber diaphragm is a kind of membrane, in various shapes and is found on compression faucets. It serves either as a barrier between two chambers, moving slightly up into one chamber or down into the other by relying on pressure differences. It is also used as a device that vibrates when certain frequencies are applied to it.

In short, a diaphragm is a flexible covering with zero permeability to fluids and gas. They are sealing agents, used to prevent two or more components from leakage and friction. The flexible nature of this seal allows pressure effects to cross the barrier but not the material being contained. These come basically with Fabric reinforcements.

Advantages of Rubber Diaphragm are:

  • Versatility
  • Positive Seal
  • Functionality Over Wide Pressure Ranges
  • No Friction
  • High Strength
  • No Lubrication
  • Tear Resistant
  • No Breakaway Force
  • Simple Design

The various applications in which rubber diaphragm is used are Actuators, Control devices, Meters, Regulators, Pumps and Other special devices.
